alluvial forests offer, delve into them and enjoy the most exciting rides in a natural and wild

environment.

The most suitable time for observing migratory birds in our region is during the months of April to

June and October to December, when the greatest number of species can be observed.

Peru is the second country with the largest number of bird species in the world and the first in

endemic species, the diversity of bird species represents 20% worldwide and more than 62% of

southern bird species, in addition to the country holds the world record for the highest number of

bird sightings in a single day without the help of motorized vehicles, with 331 in the Department of

Madre de Dios.

The official list of the birds of Peru has expanded to more than 1800 species today, more than 400

species of the birds of Peru have more than one sub-species in the country, adding 1003 sub-species

to the1800, reaching to a total of more than 2803 taxa.

Peru has the highest number of “range-restricted species” (species confined to a range of less than

50,000 square kilometers, according to Birdlife International) in the Neotropics, second in the world.

In Tambopata Peru, there are more than 1,200 species of butterflies, 200 species of mammals, 900

species of frogs and 1,300 species of birds.

Peru has more macaw clay licks than any other country, the largest mixed flock in the Amazon in

southeastern Peru, bringing together up to 103 species, with more than 70 species present at one

time, these being the more complex multi-species collections than any other group of organisms in

the world, these mega-flocks, made up of an understory flock, a canopy flock, and a fruitingtree

flock, take a long time to assemble each morning.

The different species of parrots take turns when visiting a clay lick, however up to 10 species of

parrots can be seen simultaneously, thus grouping the largest number of macaws in a single clay

lick. The presence of the cock-of-the- rock or tunqi also stands out. (Rupicola peruviana), considered

the National Bird of Peru.

Of all the places included, for the study in the “Tambopata Project”, our Ecoamazonia Reserve

Lodge, is considered the place where you can observe the largest number of birds, recording

among them 378 different species, our Ecoamazonia Lodge Reserve also being the one that

presents the largest number of bird species recorded.
